If you grew up in 70s Los Angeles, most likely you had a hide out, hang out and a ritual -- and they may have been spread out across the region. Back then, even though getting from here-to-there might be a hike, the city was much easier to navigate. Still tricky, cloaked and hard-to-know, but efforts would always be rewarded.
You took to map-making as you began to "design" your city, bus, walk, filching rides. I'd forgotten so much until I put pen to paper to find my way back I was happy to be a part of editor David Kukoff's new collection, Los Angeles in the Seventies: Weird Scenes Inside the Goldmine.
My piece, "For Now" is about territories and turf and the boundaries and bridges we drew as we continued map place and call it our own.
